Cresencio Herrera

Cresencio M. Herrera, passed in peace February 13, 2021 at the age of 86. Preceded in death by grandsons, Andres Herrera and David Michael Casas; and son-in-law, Pedro Casas. Dear friend and companion of 65 years to Elma M. Herrera. Loving father to Elvia Herrera, Raquel Sanchez, Rene Herrera, Carolyn Herrera. Proud grandfather of Erick, April, Elissa, Lawrence, Amanda, Andres, David, Valarie, and Rene. Great grandfather of Jules, Noah, Maria, Kelln, Paxton, Avery, Niklaus, Sebastian, Andres and Davina. Honored Father-in-law to Beatriz Herrera, Rey Sanchez, and Jaime Govea. Further survived by other relatives and friends. Chris, or Chencho, will be fondly remembered for his love and devotion to his family and his walk with his Lord, Jesus Christ. 
Chris was born on December 3rd, 1934 in Forney TX to Mexican migrant workers, Francisco Herrera and Anastacia Rangel. He is also preceded in death by his brothers, Frank Jr, Jimmy, Gonzalo and Lucario. Chris left school at the young age of 8-years-old to help bring in much needed income to the family. As a child, he wished to return to school along with his younger brothers; however, he was not allowed to continue his education. In spite of this, Chris would do his best to build on his 3rd grade education by reading (possibly his brother’s own schoolbooks) when he wasn’t away from home farm working with his parents. 
He met his wife, Elma, in 1953 in Dallas and married on July, 22 1955. After marriage, he and Elma settled in the Little Mexico neighborhood of Dallas and welcomed their first 3 children (Elvia, Raquel and Rene). After 10 years, they moved to Northwest Dallas on Park Ln. Shortly thereafter, they welcomed their fourth child, Carolyn. During this time Chris worked as a butcher for various markets and restaurants. In the 1980’s he and Elma purchased a second home in Lake Whitney where he shared countless memories with their children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and numerous relatives. In the 1990’s Chris retired from the Hilton Anatole Hotel and settled into their last home in Love Field. 
Chencho was an avid bowler as a young man, playing in amateur leagues and winning many trophies. After bowling, he spent some of his retirement at the golf course. His favorite course was Stevens Park in Oak Cliff; on June 19th 2007, he hit a hole-in-one. If he wasn’t golfing, he was watching it on TV. He also loved watching Westerns and Andy Griffith. He also loved reading the Bible and sitting in prayer. In 1979, Chris gave his life over to the Lord and began attending the North Dallas Fellowship. For the past 4 years, he and Elma attended the Iglesia Fuente de Vida church. 
His family will be forever grateful for the precious time we shared with him. His absence will be felt for the rest of our days; however, we know he is with all our loved ones who went before him and that we will see him again. We love you, Chencho, Pawpaw, Dad, Grandpa, Husband.
