Life Story

In Loving Memory of David Wayne Martinez

David Wayne Martinez, a beloved partner, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, musician, and friend, passed away on September 11, 2023, at the age of 67. Born on July 9, 1956, in Dallas, Texas, David brought joy, laughter, and beautiful music into the lives of those he touched.

David was the cherished son of Alfonso and Elizabeth Martinez, who preceded him in death. He was a native Texan, proud of his Oak Cliff roots, and throughout his life, he exemplified the warmth and hospitality that his home state is known for.

David's infectious sense of humor endeared him to everyone he met. He had a unique talent for making people laugh and could brighten even the darkest of days with his wit and charm. He truly never met a stranger, and his genuine kindness and approachability created lasting connections with people from all walks of life.

However, it was through music that David's spirit shone the brightest. His greatest passion was the guitar, and he poured his heart and soul into the instrument. He was a gifted musician who used his talent to bring joy and inspiration to countless others. David was not only a skilled player but also a master of improvisation and composition, creating melodies that touched the soul. Over the years, he was a proud member of several bands, including the Moondawgs,  Strange Brew, and Galaktus. Through his performances and collaborations, he left an indelible mark on the music community and inspired others to pick up the guitar and follow their own musical dreams.

David's love for music extended beyond the stage; it was a constant presence in his life. He could often be found strumming his guitar, sharing his compositions with friends and family, or simply losing himself in the melodies that brought him so much joy.

David's youthful spirit was infectious, and he absolutely adored being a grandfather to his grandchildren, and an uncle to his many nieces and nephews.  He had a deep compassion and connection with his grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  He embraced life with a youthful enthusiasm that inspired those around him to do the same. His playful nature and zest for life served as a reminder that age was just a number, and he lived each day to the fullest.

David is survived by his loving partner, Joe Galvan. He is also survived by his devoted children, Melissa (Albert) Vasquez, Vanessa (Luis) Rodriguez, and Adrian (Rachel) Galvan; and his cherished grandchildren, Marisa, Apple, AJ, Annalisa, Clarissa, Abigail, Adalysa, Adrian, and John Paul. David is also survived by his siblings, Robbie (Mari) Martinez, Yvonne Gonzales, Abel (Marcy) Martinez, and Liza (Cayo) Murillo; along with numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom held a special place in his heart.  David joins in heaven his parents and his brother Ronnie Martinez.

David's passing leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew him, but his memory will live on through the laughter he shared, the music he created, and the youthful spirit he embodied. His family, friends, and the music community will forever cherish the moments they spent with this extraordinary man.

David Wayne Martinez will be deeply missed but never forgotten. His spirit will continue to resonate through the laughter he brought and the music he shared, reminding us all to cherish the beauty of life and the power of the human connection.

Rest in peace, David. Your laughter and music will echo in our hearts forever.
