Herlinda Rios, also known to her family as “PJ,” was born to Manuel A. Morin and Elena Morin de Ortiz on January 5, 1955 in Corpus Christi, Texas. She was the 3rd oldest in the family. Herlinda is preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Diana Rodriguez. Herlinda was married to Javier Homero Rios on July 10, 1978, and they were married for 42 years and raised 3 boys who are now adults: Daniel Alejandro Rios, Joshua Aron Rios, Sr., and Jacob Rios. Herlinda also had 8 grandchildren: Jacob Anthony Rios, Jazmine Foulkes, Angelina Cipriano Miranda Renee Rios, Jaylin Carmen Cipriano, Damian Cipriano, Joshua Aron Rios Jr., and Joseph Ayden Rios. Herlinda also has 5 brothers and 5 sisters: Manuel Morin Jr. (Margie), Yolanda Medina (Olegario), Diana Rodriguez (Deceased) (Richard), Mary Alice Flores (Santos Sr.), Gilbert Morin (Maria), Ernest Morin, Andrew Morin (Jo Lynn), Sylvia Morin (Josh), Hilda Morin (Kevin), Melissa Allen (Michael), and Mark Morin (Mary).
Herlinda was a very devoted mother, wife, and grandmother. She ministered alongside her husband and has always served her Master and Savior since her conversion. Herlinda enjoyed singing in the choir and also liked to lead children’s choirs. On occasions, she and her husband enjoyed singing together the beautiful hymns and praise music. Herlinda worked as a teachers’ aide in schools, as a pharmaceutical assistant, and finally, as an administrative assistant at the Texas Baptist Convention and First Mexican Baptist Church here in Dallas, Texas. Herlinda, although stricken with rheumatoid arthritis, eventually dedicated herself to minister with the i58 ministry, with the women of our Oikos Group, and with anyone joining the church. She loved her church and those who were a part of it, especially those we have ministered with for over 15 years in Oikos. She welcomed all the added members who have recently joined and always had an encouraging word of hope and love. Herlinda’s love for the ministry was influenced by those faithful Christians back in her childhood church. Praying for the sick and those in need became a ministry that she loved and enjoyed doing—especially calling her assigned listed given to her by Sister Carol. Herlinda as well as her husband and family will forever be grateful for everything that her church family has done for her in difficult times. Her love for the Oikos Family was amazing and she cherished Royal Haven starting with her Pastor Rick Dorman and Sister Carol as well as Pastor Gene Mc. Bride and Belinda, John Yarbrough and Becky, and Marty Earls and Melinda.
Finally, Herlinda’s love for her siblings can never be forgotten by them (it was truly amazing), her love for her three boys can never be questioned, her love for her grandchildren is undisputed, and her love for her husband of 42 years is truly a mark that can never be forgotten.
