Joy "Nita" Coburn Life Story

Joy Juanita (Foster) Coburn of Garland, Texas passed away at the age of 77 in her home on Wednesday, March 25 after a long battle with cancer.

Joy Juanita “Nita” was born in Paris, Texas on June 30, 1942. When she was twelve years old, her family moved to Dallas. She grew up in the Oak Cliff neighborhood, where she attended South Oak Cliff High School. At sixteen, she met her sweetheart, Charles Coburn. On May 16,1959, they eloped. They had been married for almost sixty-one years at the time of her death. He was the love of her life.

Nita had a long career at Southwestern Bell, later to become AT&T. She started as an operator and retired as a circuit designer. She retired after 38 years in January of 2000.

Nita was a devoted wife and a loving mother and grandmother, always putting family first. She raised one
son, Glen Coburn, and was blessed with a darling daughter, Kristi, who sadly passed away at age ten.

She loved her family, friends, and neighbors. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, Charles, and going on cruises with their best friends, Kathy and James Beavers. New Orleans, Charleston, and Savannah were some of her favorite places to visit. She loved shopping and spending time with her granddaughter, watching old movies on TCM, and Tex Mex—especially a good margarita.

Nita is survived by her husband, Charles Coburn; her son, Glen Coburn and his wife Kay Bay; brother, Wesley Foster and his wife, Helen (Catechis) Foster; granddaughter, Claire Coburn. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews, Shelley (Foster) Fowler, John Paul Foster, Scott West, and their families.

She is preceded in death by her parents Plumer and Mildred (Loftin) Foster and her daughter, Kristi
Coburn.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
