Quretta McWhorter Gamble was born in Kaufman County on September 16, 1927, and following a brief illness, passed away in Conroe, Texas on March 31, 2021. She was the daughter of Tom and Ella Lou McWhorter. On September 28, 1946, she married Roderick R. Gamble. Quretta lived in Scurry, Texas for many years before moving to Dallas in 1968, and then to Conroe in 2011 to be near her family.
Due to the difficulty in pronouncing her name, she was known to many as simply Q. To her nieces & nephews, she was Aunt Q. However, her favorite name became Mama Q, after her first grandson was born. That name was indeed special to her, and she proudly displayed it on her license plates for many years.
She is survived by her daughters Janice Berry and husband, Mike, of Conroe, Texas, and Glenda Anderson and husband, Ronald, also of Conroe Texas; grandsons Rodney Anderson and wife, Carolyn, of Sugar Land, Texas; Joshua Anderson and wife, Courie, of Houston, Texas; and four great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Taylor, Jacob and Sophie; sister-in-law, Mary Lou McWhorter of Scurry, Texas, and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roderick Gamble, her parents, Tom and Ella McWhorter, and all six of her siblings - Maxine McWhorter Ford, Woodrow McWhorter, Frances McWhorter Tucker, Vivian McWhorter Anglin, Evan McWhorter, and Glen McWhorter.
Due to Covid restrictions and in following with her wishes, a private burial will be held in Dallas. At a later date, the family will have a celebration of her life. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the charity of your choice.
