Theresa Gehl Life Story

Theresa Barbara Gehl, 88, of Dallas, Texas, passed away on Sunday, September 20, 2020 at the Seasons Hospice & Palliative Care facility in Dallas surrounded by her loving family after a short illness resulting from a stroke. Theresa was born on a small farmstead located in Berwick, North Dakota on January 30, 1932 to Joseph and Lena Black.

After high school, Theresa entered the Sacred Heart Nurse Academy in 1953 to begin her education and training in the health care profession. Upon completion of her nurse’s training, she began a 38-year career at the Minot Eye, Ear, Nose & Throat Clinic as a registered nurse. Naturally talented in music, Theresa became a member of the St. Leo’s Catholic Church choir in the early ‘60’s and established herself as a notable soloist, singing at weddings and Christmas masses.

In 1964, Theresa met the love of her life, Richard Gehl. Richard had proudly served as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S Army during World War II until he was honorably discharged. Richard was in radio and television broadcasting at KMOT in Minot, North Dakota where he owned and operated KTYN radio station for 15 years. Richard and Theresa celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary in 2015 and were chartered members of Our Lady of Grace in Minot. Richard and Theresa loved to travel in their RV to many places; especially their favorites in South Padre Island and Astoria, Oregon. Along with many passions within her life, Theresa enjoyed the pleasures of singing, gardening and family reunions. She thoroughly enjoyed her time as both a grandmother and great-grandmother.

Theresa is survived by her sister Monica Mills (Sitka, AK) and brother Ken Black (Aurora, CO); her children, Susan Feist of Fargo, ND, Tom Gehl and his wife, Pam, of North Liberty, IA, John Gehl and his wife, Teresa, of Astoria, OR, Jeff Bostow of Cedar Park, TX, Mary Weiner and her husband, Gordon, of San Antonio, TX, and Ann Gehl of Dallas, Texas; her grandchildren, Matt, Judy and Ellie Feist, Brian and Michelle Gehl, Sumer and Josh Gehl, Eric Bostow and Sarah Veach, Lucas and Nicholas Weiner; and her great-grandchildren, Kevalin Feist, Owen and Oliver Gehl, Lucy Sause, Emaline Gehl, Leyton, Cal and Fiona Bostow, and Evelyn and Brielle Veach. In addition, Theresa is also survived by her family’s numerous nieces and nephews.
