W. Miller Logan Life Story

It is with profound sadness that the family of W Miller Logan, MD, announce his peaceful passing on Thursday, March 9, 2023, at the age of 63 years at Baylor Hospital in Dallas, TX. Miller was born in Birmingham, AL and spent his early childhood in Shreveport, LA, then moved to Dallas where he attended St. Marks and W.T. White High School where he played saxophone in the marching and concert bands. He was named All State First Chair Saxophone his senior year. He was also in the SMU marching band and later joined the jazz band. He received his BS in biology from SMU and his MD from the UT Health Houston McGovern Medical school in 1985, completed an internship at Baylor Hospital, Dallas, then graduated from residency in psychiatry at Timberlawn Psychiatric Hospital. At Timberlawn, he was Chief Resident 1988-1989 and became Board Certified in Psychiatry and Neurology in 1991.

Miller served in multiple medical positions: private practice as an analyst, attending psychiatrist at Timberlawn Hospital, attending inpatient psychiatrist at UT Southwestern and attending psychiatrist for Dallas County MHMR, Medical Director for the Assertive Community Treatment Team and the Mobil Crisis Team for Dallas County MHMR, Medical Director for Hunt County Behavioral Medicine Center in Greenville, TX and Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry, UT Southwestern Medical School. In 1999, Miller served as Medical Consultant for Disability at the Social Security Administration's regional office in Dallas and was named the Regional Psychiatric Coordinator in 2005 to the time of his passing. He was a respected supervisor, colleague, friend, and consultant.

Next to his dear daughter, Kate, Miller was most proud of being one of the original Super-forecasters (a cohort of 60) for the Good Judgment Project out of the University of Pennsylvania. He loved the challenge, the camaraderie, the research, and the exchange of ideas. Recently he was working with others on a question involving accurate predictions for NASA. Miller loved music, computers, investing, and had learned to be a competent sous-chef for Carol in the kitchen. He enjoyed good food, gaming, poker, politics, the beach, and sports, especially Dallas teams. He knew how to listen, to encourage others, and, when needed, to advise. He is sorely missed by his family and many friends.

Miller is survived by his devoted wife Carol Mohney, his loving daughter Kate Logan and her mother Carol Olson, stepson Chris and Aldona Mohney and children of Round Rock, TX, stepson Bryan Mohney and Henrietta Ball and child of Edmund, WA, uncle William ("Bill" ) and aunt Kay Miller and children of PA, aunt Peggy Conry, cousins Greg and Ann Giles and children, Robert ("Marty") and Toni Conry and children, all of the Birmingham, AL, area. Miller was preceded in death by his father William ("Bill") Nathan Logan and his mother Hanna Miller Logan of Dallas, and his stepson Robert Mohney of AZ.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 1, 2023 at 2 pm with a visitation at 1 pm on the same day. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to Segue Center, Dallas, TX or to Doctors without Borders.
